CLAW Bursary

The CLAW 2019 planning committee is pleased to support the Canadian Association of Research Libraries’ commitments to supporting workforce development and advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion by offering 2 travel awards to support the attendance of new librarians and library workers or those new to assessment work. Preference will be given to individuals from traditionally underrepresented populations. 

Award Details

The travel award is valued at  $2000 and is intended to support travel, accommodation, and meals for the recipient. The recipient will receive complimentary registration for the conference, including pre-conference workshops. 

Award funds will be disbursed by CARL at least three weeks prior to CLAW 2019. 

Recipient obligation

The recipient is expected to attend CLAW 2019 pre-conference and conference sessions and engage meaningfully with content and peers. Following the conference, the recipient will submit a short essay (up to 1000 words) describing their experience; this may include the impact of the learning experience, questions raised, ideas for future research or training, or other topics related to the conference program and experience. The essay will be posted on the CLAW 2019 website.


The recipient of the award:

  1. Is employed in an academic library in Canada

  2. Has demonstrated interest or experience in library assessment and/or user experience

  3. Shows evidence of contribution or potential to contribute to the growth of library assessment and/or user experience in Canadian academic libraries

  4. Has worked for up to three years in libraries or in an assessment and/or UX role

Preference will be given to applicants who identify as members of traditionally underrepresented populations, including but not limited to visible minorities, indigenous peoples, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and individuals with disabilities. Preference will be given to applicants who would otherwise find it difficult to attend CLAW 2019 because of financial constraints and/or limited professional development support.


Complete the award application and supply a statement of interest (up to 500 words) that outlines how attendance at CLAW 2019 will support your learning and development as a library worker, your experience or demonstrated interest in library assessment, and your eligibility for the award.
