The ECO HR Excellence Award celebrates environmental employers across Canada that are building exceptional workplaces, investing in their people, and setting a high standard for HR excellence.
As part of the award process, organizations will complete the HR Excellence & Benchmarking Assessment. The assessment explores key areas of HR and workplace practices, including health and safety, employee engagement, talent attraction and retention, learning and development, performance management, inclusion and accessibility.
The ECO HR Excellence Award is an opportunity to showcase your organization, gain valuable insight into your HR practices, and be recognized for your commitment to creating a great workplace.
By participating, your organization will receive:
Customized HR Maturity Scorecard – Gain insight into your organization’s HR strengths, opportunities, and overall level of HR maturity.
ECO HR Excellence Badge & Certificate – Receive a recognition badge based on your assessment results that you can showcase on your website, LinkedIn, recruitment materials, and other communications.
Sector Benchmarking – Contribute to ECO Canada’s first national look at HR practices across Canada’s environmental sector. The information collected will help identify trends, strengths, and common challenges and support the development of meaningful HR benchmarks for future editions of the award.
Opportunity to Win the 2027 Award – Organizations demonstrating leading HR practices will be shortlisted for the ECO HR Excellence Award 2027 and invited to participate in the final evaluation.

Every participating organization will be assessed against the award criteria and may receive one of four recognition levels based on its results:
Platinum – Leading HR practices and an outstanding commitment to workplace excellence.
Gold – Strong, well-established HR practices and a clear commitment to employees.
Silver – Solid HR foundations with opportunities for continued development.
Bronze – Emerging HR practices and a positive foundation for continued growth.
Your recognition level will be reflected in your ECO HR Excellence digital badge, giving your organization a tangible way to demonstrate its commitment to strong people practices.
Organizations demonstrating the strongest HR practices will be shortlisted for the ECO HR Excellence Award 2027 and invited to provide additional information as part of the final evaluation.
The award recipient will be recognized at ECO Impact 2027, with opportunities for additional public recognition through ECO Canada’s website, social media channels, communications, and other promotional platforms.
This is the first year of the ECO HR Excellence Award, making participation especially valuable. The assessment data will help ECO Canada develop a clearer picture of how environmental employers across Canada approach HR and workplace practices.
Over time, this information will help establish sector-specific benchmarks and insights that can support employers in understanding how their people practices are evolving and where opportunities for improvement exist.

The assessment consists of 51 MCQ questions and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Please complete them as accurately as possible. Your responses will help us understand your organization’s current practices, identify areas of strength and opportunity, and determine your ECO HR Excellence recognition level.
The ECO HR Excellence Award is designed for organizations of all sizes — from small businesses to large employers and multinational organizations. The assessment considers your organization’s size and scale to ensure a fair evaluation. Simply answer each question based on your current HR practices.
