The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), a financial Crown corporation wholly-owned by the Government of Canada, is Canada’s only bank exclusively focused on providing support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs. The BDC enhances access to financing, capital and advisory services for all Canadian entrepreneurs, across all sectors, regions and stages of development by providing services to fill out or complete services available from private sector providers.
The BDC is governed by the Business Development Bank of Canada Act (BDC Act), and operates at arm's length from the Government of Canada. The BDC Act requires that a review of the legislation be conducted on a regular basis. The purpose of the 2022 Legislative Review is to evaluate the provisions and operations of the BDC Act and examine how the mandate of the BDC has evolved and might continue to evolve to support Canadian entrepreneurs and SMEs over the coming decade.
This voluntary consultation survey is open to all Canadians including entrepreneurs, experts and stakeholders in academia, business and industry. Responses to most questions are optional by design, providing you with the flexibility to select key questions and focus your time in your areas of greatest interest or expertise. Your responses will be kept private in accordance with laws designed to protect your privacy, including the Privacy Act. The feedback you provide, guided by the questions in this survey, will help to inform the legislative review. The consultation period will be open for feedback until March 31, 2023. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada will review the feedback received and table a report in Parliament. We thank you in advance for your important contribution.
