Course Description: In honour of Black Mental Health Week, this session creates space for Black social workers to come together. For Black communities, the pervasive experience of systemic racism and unhealed generational trauma has led to 'resilience' as the default option to address racial trauma. As a result, many are dismissing their mental, emotional, and physical needs, leaving them exhausted. This session aims to create a sacred space for participants to explore the dangers of living the “resilient lifestyle,” where Black identities become muted while we remain in survival mode. Join us to understand and explore how prioritizing the seven types of rest will allow you to tend to racial wounds and live liberated in Blackness. Using African-centred knowledge and practices, participants will share this space as a way to validate, support, love and begin rebuilding and reconnecting to others and their personal Black identity.
